About Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity
Our Vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity was established in 1987 and has served more than 250 hard-working families through the construction and rehabilitation of homes in the Cape Fear Region. Our families partner with us throughout the build process and pay affordable mortgages on the completed homes. Individuals in need of affordable housing are able to build strength, stability & self-reliance through our homeownership program. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a donation center and home store that supports Cape Fear Habitat while offering affordable access to home goods and building supplies in our community.
Together, we strive to build homes, hope and community in the Cape Fear Region.
About Port City Duck Dash
Join us to FLOAT HOPE for homes & community!
The Port City Duck Dash is a rubber ducky race down the Cape Fear River! We are partnering with Wilmington Riverfest and will be holding the race on Sunday, April 10th, 2022 during Azalea Festival events. Our goal is to race 10,000 rubber ducks down the Cape Fear River! The top ducks will win amazing prizes, including exclusive gift bundles thanks to our amazing sponsors and a grand prize of $5,000 for the first place winner! The race lane will be created by floating nets to ensure that our racers don’t stray out of the race zone, and the ducks will be funneled to the end, where the winners will be caught as they cross the finish line.
All proceeds will benefit Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to provide safe, decent, affordable homes in the Cape Fear region.
Port City Duck Dash Frequently Asked Questions
Up to 10,000 rubber ducks are being adopted by members of the Cape Fear community. On Sunday, April 10th, they will be set loose in the raceway on the Cape Fear River. The top ducks will win prizes! All proceeds will benefit Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity.
We have the support of a generous sponsor that will be providing boom line (floating barriers to keep our ducks from straying out of the raceway). When they reach the finish line, they will be scooped out of the river from within a contained area. And just in case some of the ducks get carried away, we are grateful to have the support of volunteers who will be out in kayaks and small boats to help wrangle any ducks that might unexpectedly slip past the barrier. We are also grateful for the support of Cape Fear River Watch, who has assisted us in ensuring that we protect the river during this event!
First prize will be $5,000! Other prizes will be provided by generous local business sponsors and will be announced closer to the race date. Stay tuned for more details!

If you purchased your ducks in the ReStores, at a farmers market, community event, etc., you may not have received a confirmation email yet as those orders take more time to process. Rest assured that all purchases are tracked and processed! If you have any questions about your order status, please don’t hesitate to reach out to PortCityDuckDash@capefearhabitat.org.
NO! You do not have to be in attendance of the Duck Dash to be eligible to win. When the winning ducks are selected, we will contact the winners within 2 business days via email and/or phone with details on the prize and how to claim.
The Port City Duck Dash will be held Sunday, April 10th at 4:00pm along the Riverwalk by Riverfront Park.
